Sep 13, 2024

To gain a thorough understanding of the research progress and thoughts of our doctoral students, help address their concerns, and stimulate their research potential and innovative vitality, the Automotive Engineering Research Institute held a doctoral student research innovation exchange meeting on September 11. The meeting was attended by the institute's party and administrative leadership, faculty representatives, and all doctoral students, and was hosted by Dean Haobin Jiang.

Haobin Jiang first presented the results of a survey conducted by the institute before the meeting, which focused on cultivating the research and innovation abilities of doctoral students. He analyzed the current distribution of personal mindsets among the institute’s doctoral students regarding academic goals, innovative thinking, and breakthroughs in high-level research outcomes. In light of the current technological, higher education, and talent competition environment, he stressed that the institute’s doctoral students should build confidence, set high standards for themselves, and be bold in continuously setting new records in high-level research outcomes such as academic papers. Jiang emphasized that, as a specialized research institution, the Automotive Engineering Research Institute plays a vital role in the development of the university. In the higher education talent training system, doctoral students receive the highest level of training, over the longest period, and with the best resources. As the main force in research, doctoral students should fully utilize their potential, improve their innovative abilities through hands-on research projects, and use high standards to stimulate an ongoing internal drive, aiming to produce high-level research outcomes and set new heights for their research innovation abilities.

Following this, the doctoral students shared updates on their current research progress, the difficulties they encountered during the research process, and their future development plans. Faculty representatives, drawing from their own research experiences, interests, and directions, shared valuable insights on how to efficiently carry out research and publish high-quality papers. They offered advice on selecting research topics, conducting analysis, validating experiments, writing papers, and creating figures and charts. They also encouraged the students to find their positioning, focus their research on industry trends and practical needs of companies, plan their careers timely, and stay committed to their goals with strong action, which would lead to high-quality research outcomes.

Lastly, Party Secretary Dan Li gave a concluding speech, encouraging doctoral students to keep the country’s major interests in mind, meet national strategic needs, and take on the mission of the times with courage and ambition. She urged them to aspire to scientific excellence, make full use of the institute’s resources and platforms, strive for breakthroughs in high-level research outcomes, and realize their personal value through their research.

After the meeting, the doctoral students expressed that they found the session inspiring and highly beneficial. They gained a clearer understanding of their own issues, boosted their confidence in overcoming the challenges of research, and planned to adjust their mindset, set new academic development goals, and, through rigorous, diligent, meticulous, and patient research, achieve high-level outcomes. In doing so, they aim to contribute to the development of the Automotive Engineering Research Institute and the university’s goal of becoming a "Double First-Class" institution.
