Associate Professor Liu Jian from the University of British Columbia in Canada was invited to give an academic presentation at our university
Aug 16, 2023

On the morning of August 15, 2023, at the invitation of the Automotive Engineering Research Institute, Associate Professor Liu Jian from the University of British Columbia, Canada, delivered an academic report titled "Research on Next Generation Battery/Capacitor Materials and Interface Design" to the entire faculty and students of the institute. The report was chaired by Vice President Professor Yuan Chaochun.

Dr. Liu Jian, based on the research results of his research team, mainly explored technologies for energy storage and electric vehicle batteries. The electrode material and its interface structure are the core of the stability of the liquid-solid and solid-solid interfaces in batteries, and are also the key to achieving the next generation of liquid and all solid-state batteries; Through advanced atomic/molecular layer deposition technology and research on new electrolytes, various functional coating materials are designed to solve or alleviate harmful side reactions in rechargeable batteries/capacitors, and advanced characterization techniques are used to explain interface phenomena. The relevant research in the report can promote the development of rechargeable batteries and accelerate the global transformation of clean energy. After the report, the majority of teachers and students enthusiastically asked questions. Through this academic report, international cooperation between the Automotive Engineering Research Institute and the University of British Columbia in Canada has been promoted, broadening the academic horizons of all faculty and students in the institute.

Liu Jian, Ph.D., Associate Professor and Chief Researcher of Energy Storage Technology at the University of British Columbia (Okanagan Campus) in Canada. I obtained a PhD in Materials Science from the University of Western Ontario, Canada in 2013 and served as a postdoctoral researcher at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and the Northwest Pacific National Laboratory at NSERC. I joined the University of British Columbia, Canada in January 2017. The current research direction focuses on advanced nanomanufacturing technology, lithium-ion battery material design, and interface and material design in energy storage and conversion technology Commun, More than 120 papers have been published in journals such as Nat. Energy and Nano Lett. I am currently the Chief Researcher of UBC Energy Storage Technology and have won the New Star Award and the UBC Emerging Professor Award from the International Academy of Electrochemical Energy Sciences. I have been selected as the Peter Wall Associate of the UBC Peter Wall Advanced Research Institute for my outstanding research achievements (2020).
